The Granville County Genealogical Society will hold a program on the Marable family at 6:30 p.m. April 3 at the Thornton Library in Oxford.

The program will be presented by longtime genealogical researchers Salyann Marable Hobson and Joey Dickerson.

Hobson has been doing research on the Marable family since 1997. Dickerson serves as the commander of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans Camp of Southern Granville County.

The program will include the life and experiences of the Marable family, including Col. Edward Travis Marable, who owned the 1090-acre plantation Cedar Lawn from the 1820s to 1857, and the family’s slaves.

The program will also involve the Butler family and the Confederate military career of Edward Gale Butler.

The meeting is open to the public.
