Carver Elementary School’s One Step Above Reading Club recently performed a short skit as part of Read Across America, a national celebration held to honor the birthday of Dr. Seuss.

During the skit, members of the club read or summarized their favorite Dr. Seuss books.

The special guest during the program was Abagayle Allegretto, the former owner of Abagayle’s Used Books on Garnett Street in Henderson.

Allegretto dressed up as Dr. Seuss and read the book “Green Eggs and Ham” during the event, with several club members and guest students assisting her.

She also sang a song with the audience.

The program ended with the group singing “Happy Birthday” to Dr. Seuss.

Treats were provided for the 142 present students.

Providing help with the program were Allegretto, guest reader Citlali Segundo, Melinda and Lisa Hargrove, LaVonda Williams and Janey Cutts.

Financial support for the event was provided by the Tokens of Love Program.
