Alive After Five features The Attractions Band

Jul. 29, 2014 @ 10:10 AM

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s second Alive After Five of the 2014 series will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, in the Gazebo Park, Central Avenue in Butner.

The entertainers for the evening will be The Attractions Band. This band is billed as a real ’60’s, beach and R&B group.

One of the biggest jobs starting out was a performance in Charlotte on stage with Curtis Mayfield and The Impressions. In a very short time, the group was on stage at all the local colleges and clubs.

The Attractions opened for and were the backup band for well-known performers such as The Tams, Clifford Curry, Jimmy Ruffin, The Fifth Dimension and The Platters, along with numerous other top recording artists of the day.

Years went by as the original members were busy, building their careers and families, but the love for playing music was still a major part of them. A few of the members kept playing on weekends with different groups, and the other members were still holding on to the dream of being on stage once again.

During the summer of 1999, and after 30 years, a reunion of the band was organized and, once again, members of The Attractions were all together. However, what started out as a reunion turned into a monthly rehearsal, then a weekly rehearsal, and now the group plays almost every weekend.

In November 2009, The Attractions Band was inducted into the Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame. Several local beach music enthusiasts highly recommended the band for one of the Chamber’s Alive After Five events.

The outdoor concert is free to attend. Beverages will be available to purchase, as well as Coca-Cola products. Chamber member concession vendors will have a variety of food items to purchase: Chick-fil-A, George’s Restaurant, Munching Marvin’s and SnoCrazy.

Volunteers are needed to secure IDs, adhere wristbands and serve beverages, be at the wine booth and beverage wagon. Two time slots are available: 5 to 7 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Volunteers receive a free event T-shirt.
