Community college offers course on building, repairing computers

Vance-Granville Community College is offering a course developed to teach area residents how to get the best performance out of their personal computers.

“PC Maintenance & Repair” is scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 5:30-9:30 p.m., Jan. 10-April 2, on the college’s main campus in Vance County.

Teaching the course will be Mitch Evans, the director of infrastructure services in the college’s information technology department. Topics will include networking, printer sharing, file sharing, and installing add-on hardware and software. Subjects such as scanning and removing virus information, spyware and ad-ware will also be addressed. Students will build and assemble a personal computer, and gain hands-on experience in system recovery and system restoration operations.

The registration fee for this course is $175, with other college fees totaling $7. N.C. resident seniors, ages 65 and above.
