Society moves meeting
Due to the Martin Luther King Holiday, the Vance County Genealogical Society 1881 has moved it next meeting to Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m., at Perry Memorial Library, Henderson. (The society usually meets on the third Monday of each month.)
This meeting is open to the public.
During the meeting, society members will review and discuss the book, “Upon These Steps,” written by Vance County native, David Reavis.
The Reavis Family was a prominent family in the area when it was once part of Granville County. Built by Samuel Reavis in 1789, the Reavis house is located on Satterwhite Point Road in Vance County.
The book goes into detail about the heritage of generations of Reavis ancestors who dwelled in this house, particularly those of the Civil War era. According to Reavis, the resilience demonstrated by his ancestors during this period served as inspiration for this work.
