Tips from the Vance County Parenting Task Force
Place the baby on his back to sleep.
Make sure he isn’t overdressed.
Use a firm mattress with no more than two fingers width between the mattress edge and crib frame.
Cover the mattress with a tight-fitting sheet. Soft items can suffocate the baby if too near his face. If you must use a blanket, place the baby with his feet at the foot of the crib and tuck a thin blanket around the crib mattress, covering only as high as baby’s chest.
Dress the baby in a sleeper rather than use a blanket.
