Roanoke Duck Derby approaching
Rubber duck adoptions are now available for the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce’s 2014 Ducky Derby, scheduled to take place Sept. 20.
The derby has been a yearly attraction for the Roanoke Valley for 24 years.
It will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at River Falls Park in Weldon.
Amusement rides will be offered free of charge.
This year’s derby will include a car show organized by the Halifax Community College automotive program. The show will fit inside the River Falls complex and include classic and modern cars.
There will also be arts and crafts vendors, food and live entertainment.
Admission is free.
Rubber duck adoptions are one for $5, six for $25 or 25 for $100. Each rubber duck is numbered, and the ducks are released off the park bridge, where they will race down river to the finish line. The prize for the adopter of the winning duck is $2,000.
The race is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
