North Carolina Debutante Ball scheduled for September
Invitations were recently issued for the 87th annual North Carolina Debutante Ball, which will take place in Raleigh from Sept. 5-7. The formal presentation of young ladies from across the state will highlight the weekend festivities.
Attendees from the Tri-County area are Rebecca Catherine Falkner of Henderson and Kaitlyn Elizabeth Fudge of Oxford.
A total of eight functions will be held in honor of the debutantes, their families and their escorts. As the focal point of the weekend’s activities, a formal presentation will be made during the evening of Sept. 5 at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh.
Young ladies are selected by more than 200 nominators located throughout the state for this event. Members of the Terpsichorean Club made the final approval.
Invitations are then extended to the young ladies in recognition of their family’s contributions to economic, cultural, social and civic life of North Carolina. The Leader of the Ball will be chosen from Wake County’s Debutantes; 12 young ladies from throughout the state will also honored by being named assistant leaders.
Comprised of young gentlemen from the Raleigh area, the Terpsichorean Club was formed in the 1920s to sponsor an annual statewide Debutante Ball. It has been held every year since 1923 with the exception of the World War II years.
