On Feb. 19, owners of local businesses may take the opportunity during their lunch breaks to attend a free seminar concerning taxes and workers’ compensation.

The Small Business Center at Vance-Granville Community College will conduct the seminar, entitled “What every Business Owner needs to know about Taxes and Workers’ Compensation Insurance,” from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., on the main campus in Vance County, in Building 7, Room 7107.

Participants will witness presentations from representatives of the N.C. Department of Revenue, the N.C. Industrial Commission, the N.C. Department of Commerce Division of Workforce Solutions, and the Small Business Administration. They will discuss the importance of understanding the law in order for businesses to comply with it. Topics will range from the waiving of fees and penalties by the state for small business whose taxes are overdue; rules concerning the requirement of obtaining workers’ compensation insurance; and taking advantage of Federal Work Opportunity Tax Credits.

Attendees should bring their lunch with them to the seminar. Call the small business center at (252) 738-3275 or 738-3240 to register or to find out more.

The Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce, the North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development, the Women’s Business Center of North Carolina and the N.C. Department of Revenue, along with the small business center, are sponsoring this event.
