With the recent $7,500 donation, money poured into the Vance-Granville Community College Endowment Fund over the course of the past decade by Progress Energy now totals $56,250.

Tanya Evans, Progress Energy’s district manager, presented the donation Dec. 14 to Dr. Stelfanie Williams, president of the college, and Jo Anna Jones, executive director of the endowment fund.

Among the many projects these contributions support are scholarships through the college. The Endowment Fund and Scholarship Program has paid for over 6,500 scholarships given to students attending the college since 1982.

The history of the relationship between the power company and the college can be traced back to Carolina Power & Light, the company’s predecessor. It supported (and, as Progress Energy, continues to support) scholarships for the college. These include the Progress Energy Academic Achievement Scholarship, Presidential Merit Award-level scholarship and several annual scholarships. In addition, Progress Energy has co-sponsored several golf tournaments and other events organized to raise money for the fund.
