Community college to hold creative writing camp for high school students
Area high school students interested in creative writing have until Saturday to sign up for the Spring 2013 Vance-Granville Community College Creative Writing Camp. The camp will take place March 2, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., on the main campus in Vance County.
Ninth- through 11th-graders interested in writing and having their work published are urged to attend. According to David Wyche, head of VGCC’s English department, attendees (as a group) will basically design and publish an anthology of their own works in a single day.
Including Wyche, all four instructors leading the camp have published their works. The remaining three instructors will be English/humanities instructor Wendy Frandsen, who authored two textbooks currently used at the college; Dr. Tanya Olson, an award-winning poet who holds an M.A. in Anglo-Irish Literature; and Bridget Bell, associate editor for Four Way Books, a literary press based out of New York, N.Y.
The camp will cost $35 to attend. Lunch and a T-shirt will be included in the cost.
