The Citadel

Wesley Michael Ballinger of Warrenton, a cadet at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, has been named to the President’s List for the fall semester of the 2012-2013 academic year. A member of Lima Company, Ballinger is currently working toward a bachelor’s degree in physical education.

The President’s List is the most distinguished awards list a cadet can be placed. It indicates excellence in both academics and military duties for the previous semester. It is a combination of the dean’s list and the Commandant’s Distinguished Service List (which includes cadets who have contributed the most to their platoon, company, battalion, or staff, the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and The Citadel during the previous semester).

Founded in 1842, this public, coeducational military college in Charleston, S.C., offers a classic military education. The college focuses on educating and developing principled leaders.

Benjamin “Ben” Rosser O’Geary of Henderson recently made the dean’s list as a freshman at Radford University in Radford, Va., for the fall semester 2012.

To make the dean’s list at Radford University, a student must earn a minimum GPA of 3.4.

Rebekah Lee Edwards of Henderson was named to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington’s Dean’s List for the fall semester 2012. In doing so, she met the following criteria:

Students carrying 15 hours or more must earn a grade point average of 3.20 or better with no grades less than B (3.00).

She also received the Chancellor’s Achievement Award for the fall semester. Students must complete a minimum of 15 semester hours with no grade lower than A- to earn this award.

A 2012 graduate of Northern Vance High School, she is the daughter of Billy and Denise Edwards.

Brittany Janise Alexander of Henderson was named to the dean’s list at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for the fall semester 2012. To qualify, full-time students must earn a grade point average between 3.40 and 3.79 in 12 or more semester hours of credit graded A, B, or C, with no grade less than C.

Alexander, a junior, is majoring in elementary education. She is the daughter of James and Partesar Alexander of Henderson; and the granddaughter of Betty Hawkins, and James and Alice Alexander, all of Henderson.

Wake Forest

Brian Hart and Tyler Williams, both residents of Oxford, made the dean’s list for the fall semester 2012 at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem.

This institution takes the best qualities of a small liberal arts college and combines them with the resources available through a large research university.
