The end-of-year and graduation celebration for the Emerging Young Leaders program was recently held at the Baskerville Law Office Chapel Annex in Henderson.

Vivian Bullock presided over the program.

The EYL program was established in 2010 by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. It is for girls in middle school and involves leadership development, educational enrichment, civic engagement and character building exercises.

Jackie Harris shared the purpose of the event, and Sarah Baskerville introduced the guest speaker, Kendra Simmons.

Simmons is the reigning 2013 Debutante Queen of the Nu Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Her speech centered on leadership skills and decision-making.

Then, EYL members then reflected on the quality and content of the program, stating what it meant to them.

Nu Chi Omega members gave thanks to program participants, presenting each member and their parents with flowers and gift bags.

Eight Emerging Young Leaders received graduation certificates, and one received a participation certificate.

Dianne Evans and other chapter members gave words of encouragement and support.

The program concluded with a reception.

This is the third graduating class to be sponsored by the Nu Chu Omega chapter, which serves Oxford, Henderson and the surrounding areas.
