Tips from the Vance County Parenting Task Force
Parents should not punish their infant children because:
1. Infants do not perform misdeeds or misbehavior on purpose. They are only exploring their environment.
2. Danger-proofing, redirection and praise are three more effective ways to help infants manage their environment.
3. Infants do not have the cognitive skills to know the difference between right and wrong.
4. Infants need love, protection and support, not punishment.
If you become frustrated with your infant, find a place to calm down and call someone you can trust to relieve you for a while.
