Smart Start receives grant to extend program services
Franklin-Granville-Vance Smart Start has received a grant to expand the Assuring Better Child Health and Development program services into Person and Durham counties.
The grant was awarded by the N.C. Partnership for Children, the nonprofit organization that funds N.C. Smart Start, which initially received the funding from the federal Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge Grant awarded to North Carolina in 2010.
The ABCD project assists pediatric primary care providers in performing routine developmental and autism specific screening and referring children for early intervention or special education services for children before they begin kindergarten.
Currently the project is being implemented in six medical practices in Vance, Granville and Franklin counties. The grant will support work with six additional medical practices in Durham and Person Counties.
