J.P. Taylor endows two scholarships
Because of contributions from J.P. Taylor Company, a subsidiary of Universal Leaf North America, a pair of $2,500 scholarships will be available at Vance-Granville Community College for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Students who are employees or spouses or children of employees at the company will be given priority for the scholarships, as well as those enrolled in the college transfer, business administration, electronics engineering technology and computer information technology programs. Scholarship recipients must also meet certain academic requirements.
The company had already endowed two scholarships at the college, the Universal Leaf North America, U.S., Academic Achievement Scholarship and the Frank Tedder Memorial/J.P. Taylor Employees/Universal Leaf Academic Achievement Scholarship.
Universal Leaf North America is headquartered in Nashville and also has operations in Oxford and Rocky Mount.
The local J.P. Taylor Company general manager, Dwight Green, along with Vanessa Smith, the Universal Leaf vice president of human resources, presented the donation to the college endowment fund to Eddie Ferguson, the fund’s director.
