Free prostate screenings slated for Sept. 17
For the 22nd year, doctors and staff at Maria Parham Medical Center have volunteered to provide free prostate screenings for men in the community.
Screenings will be given from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at Maria Parham Medical Center. No appointments are necessary.
The hospital has requested that participants enter through the front entrance and stop by the front desk.
The 2013 screenings saw the largest turnout to date, with 185 men taking advantage of the free service.
This year’s attending physicians will be Adrian Ogle, Franklin Mills, Mark Dubinski, Kolby Sidhu, Rafael Negron, Gary Smith and Linga Vijaya.
It is recommended that men 50 years of age and older see a doctor once a year for a complete medical examination that includes a prostate checkup. Men with a family history of prostate cancer should begin screenings earlier.
