Aycock recognized for tolerance efforts
Aycock Elementary was recently honored by the national civil rights group Teaching Tolerance for its efforts to foster tolerance and understanding in the school.
Teaching Tolerance is an educational project of the Southern Poverty Law Center that strives to reduce prejudices and support equal opportunities in the nation’s school systems.
The project recently recognized Aycock and 75 other schools across the country as Mix it Up Model Schools.
The schools recognized were among the 6,000 that participated in Teaching Tolerance’s 2013 Mix It Up At Lunch Day program, an effort that encourages students to break social boundaries by switching up their lunch partners.
