Letter carriers to collect donations Saturday
In addition to gathering the mail, letter carriers in Henderson and the rest of Vance County will pickup diapers, dry goods and canned foods Saturday along their routes to donate to area agencies that provide help for the needy.
The effort is part of the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Those wishing to support the drive should place items beside their mailbox prior to their carrier’s normal delivery time Saturday.
Suggested food items to donate include pasta, cereals, rice and canned soups, vegetables and meats.
Items collected in Vance County will be distributed to Area Christians Together In Service, Addiction Rehabilitation Centers for Men and Women, Life Line Outreach Inc., and The Salvation Army.
In addition to the National Association of Letter Carriers, sponsors of the event include Feeding America, the U.S. Postal Service, United Way, Valpak, Uncle Bob’s Self Storage, Campbell’s, Valassis, Publix, AFL-CIO, the National Rural Letter Carriers Association and the AARP Drive To End Hunger.
