Art show winners announced
Winners were recently announced for the 48th annual Kerr Lake Art Show, co-sponsored by Vance-Granville Community College and the Kerr Lake Art Society.
This year, 21 artists submitted a total of 61 works.
Cash prizes were awarded in three categories: professional, amateur and photography.
Isaac Talley, an art instructor at the college, served as judge.
In the professional category, Evert Furrey won first place with the watercolor painting “Sunset in the Smokies.” Stephen Filarsky took second for his oil painting “Red Carnation.” M. Theresa Brown’s pastel entitled “Turn of the Tide” took third. Honorable mentions were awarded to Jaye Williamson, Bunny Matthews, Mary Oakley, Laurie Stephens, Don Marlowe and Ann Wilson.
In the amateur category, Madelaine Parkin won first place for her watercolor “Spring Basket.” Susan Alvater took second for her oil painting “Sanchez the Collie.” Dolores Wilkinson won third for her oil painting “Boy of Summer.” Nancy Pittard, Cynthia Graham and Mikayla Stone received honorable mentions, as did Parkin for another entry.
In the photography category, Dr. Blanche Haning took first for “Brazilian Farmer.” Jennifer Paterson came in second with “Beauty.” Wanda Satterwhite and Ellen Anderson received honorable mentions.
Lelia Brigham, society president and part-time instructor at the college, coordinated the event.
