New rehab director assumes role at Maria Parham Medical Center
Effective lin February, Liz Karan, OTR/L, was selected as Maria Parham Medical Center’s director of rehabilitation services.
Karan earned a BS degree, followed up by a MS degree, in occupational therapy at D’Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y. After relocating to North Carolina in 1997, she worked in the fields of developmental disabilities, home health, skilled nursing and pediatrics before becoming the lead occupation therapist for the hospital’s rehab services department in 1999.
She is currently the only certified lymphedema therapist withn a four-county area, earning her certification in 2004. In addition, she has graduate certificates from the University of Florida in both health care risk management and patient safety.
The hospital chose its inaugural “Circle of Excellence” class in 2006: Karan was included among those employees selected for the honor. She has been a member of the hospital’s Foundation 5 and the Cancer Wellness Group committees.
