Literary club discusses book on Jacqueline Kennedy during March meeting
Alison Short hosted the March 21 meeting of the Sorosis Literary Club at the home of Betty Ayscue, her mother.
Each of the 18 members attending was served a dessert course. After the business session, conducted by club president Jane Fleming, members read and approved the minutes, followed by the treasurer’s report. Member of the program committee — Janet White, Barbara Madigan, and Lisa Byrom — who will serve during the coming year, were presented by Betty Brand, incoming president.
Kathy Newcomb presented the program, a discussion of the book, “Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life with John F. Kennedy,” by Caroline Kennedy and Michael Beschloss. In 1964, historian Aruth Schlesinger Jr. conducted seven interviews with Jacqueline, detailing her life with John F. Kennedy and his presidency. The eight-and-a-half hours of recordings were released, with accompanying transcripts, by Caroline Kennedy and the Kennedy family to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his inauguration.
Betty Brand will act as hostess for the club’s next meeting April 18.
