Volunteers from local college contribute to success of TV fundraiser
For the ninth consecutive year, UNC-TV was assisted during a fundraiser by students, faculty and staff from Vance-Granville Community College in Henderson.
This year, the public broadcasting network received 35 volunteers on March 2, who operated phones (among other tasks) during the on-air “Festival 2013” fundraiser while sporting their Vance-Granville Community College Vanguard apparel.
During the broadcast, UNC-TV personality Kelly McCullen conducted an interview with one of the volunteers, Stelfanie Williams, president of the college. Williams, pointing out the how the college and the network shared a common interest in education and public service, said that her fellow volunteers were pleased to join the fundraising effort.
Students represented among the volunteers included the student ambassadors, the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, the Student Government Association, the Social Sciences Club and Phi Beta Lambda — whose members earned a pizza party by sending the most volunteers to the event.
