Safety event for older drivers scheduled at hospital

Mar. 27, 2013 @ 11:36 PM

Maria Parham Medical Center, through its occupational therapy department, will be offering the CarFit program on April 13, from 9 a.m.-noon, to drivers of at least 55 years of age.

Trained professionals will be on hand at the oncology entrance of the hospital, leading attendees through a 12-point checklist with their vehicles, recommending adjustments and adaptations to their vehicles, and offering resources and activities to enhance their safety behind the wheel by making their vehicles “fit” better.

Appointments, lasting approximately 15 minutes, must be made through Kimberly Gouldin, occupational therapist at the hospital, by calling (252) 436-1622 or emailing Kimberly.Gouldin@LPNT.net. Questions may be directed toward her as well.

Directions to the event site are as follows: Turn into the main hospital driveway off Ruin Creek Road; turn right at blue directional sign (parking for oncology, outpatient rehabilitation and the hospital classroom); entrance is the covered walkway in the circular driveway to the left.

Note: Information gathered during this event (which is being sponsored by AAA, AOTA and the AARP) will not be reported to the DMV or other entities.
