A career day event for third- through fifth-grade students took place March 14 at New Hope Elementary School in the cafetorium.

Vance-Granville Community College sent several representatives from different departments with information to share. They set up different stations that the children could rotate through. Topics ranged from criminal justice and cosmetology to electronics engineering, computer education and carpentry.

The Townsville Volunteer Fire Dept. also sent personnel, who were on hand outside the school to explain to students how equipment was used on two different fire trucks.

The event was organized by Angela Gardner, a dean at the college, along with Betty Jo Ellis, her administrative assistant, and Barbara Slaughter, school counselor at New Hope.
