Salvation Army receives $3,500 from Food Lion

The Food Lion Charitable Foundation recently donated $3,500 to the Salvation of Vance County to help local residents during the holiday season. The Salvation Army will use the gift to purchase food to be distributed to persons needing emergency food assistance.

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the Universal Christian Church. Based on messages from the Bible, its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to engage in humanitarian efforts in his name without discrimination.

Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in all the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $9 million in grants.
