Community concert series begins Friday, Linden to perform

Hal Linden and a seven-piece band will perform at Vance-Granville Community College at 8 p.m. on Friday.

The performance will kick off the 2013-2014 Henderson Community Concert Series.

Linden is a jazz musician and actor. In 1971 he won a Best Actor Tony Award for his portrayal of Mayer Rothschild in the musical “The Rothschilds.” In 1975, he landed a role as the title character in the television series Barney Miller. The role earned him seven Primetime Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Award nominations.

Linden also hosted two educational series, "Animals, Animals, Animals" and "FYI," which won him to Daytime Emmy Awards. He won a third Daytime Emmy Award for guest starring on CBS Schoolbreak Special.

Linden released his first album of pop and jazz standards, titled "It’s Never Too Late," in 2011.

Admission to the concert is by season ticket only. Season tickets will be available at the door.

Four more concerts are planned for this season. Scheduled to perform are Umi Garrett, the N.C. Symphony, New York Theatre Ballet and the techno-comedy duo AudioBody.

The annual concert series is presented by the Henderson Community Concert Association, a volunteer, non-profit organization.
