Scholarship given in honor of hospital volunteer
Volunteers from the Guild Gift Gallery at Maria Parham Medical Center recently donated $25,000 to the Vance-Granville Community College Endowment Fund to create a new scholarship.
This is the seventh scholarship established by the gallery in recent years. It will honor Ann Rose Allen of Henderson, who organized and coordinated the hospital’s original gift shop.
The gift gallery offers convenience items to patients and visitors at the hospital. It is operated by volunteers, and profits from sales are used to fund scholarships for people entering healthcare professions.
The new scholarship will be used to assist students at Vance-Granville Community College who are enrolled in programs such as nursing, radiography, medical assisting and pharmacy technology. Because it is endowed, it will be awarded to students each year.
The college’s endowment fund has awarded more than 7,000 scholarships to students since 1982. For more information about establishing a scholarship at the college or making a tax-deductible donation, call (252) 738-3409.
