College honors paramedic grads
Vance-Granville Community College recently honored 14 students who completed the yearlong emergency medical technician-paramedic program at the college in July.
The graduates included Susan Adcock, April Manyon and Lindsey Simmons of Henderson; Valerie Bibee of Kittrell; Wendy Garrett of Norlina; Chris Adcock and Hannah Tuck of Oxford; and James Grant of Warrenton.
Vivian Loyd served as instructor for the class.
The instruction included 596 hours of classroom training and 500 hours in the field. Graduates of the program have skills beyond the EMT basic level program, including being able to administer additional care and medication. Paramedics deliver the highest level of pre-hospital care in the state.
The graduates must now take the 100-question North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services credentialing exam to become state-certified.
