Students attend leadership conference

Four Vance County high school students attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Conference at Camp Oak Hill in April.

Sam Fuquay and James Averette, students at Kerr-Vance Academy, and Jake Wiggins and Jonathan Byrom, students at Northern Vance High School, were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Henderson.

Fuquay is the son of Donna Spargo. Averette is the son of Angie and Curtis Averette. Wiggins is the son of Sandra and Frank Wiggins. Byrom is the son of Lisa and Doug Byrom.

Students are chosen to attend the conference based on their demonstrated leadership potential in scholastic, athletic and civic activities. Conference sessions focused on leadership, team building activities, and time and stress management.

The conference is sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of District 7710, which represents the north-central portion of North Carolina.
