Franklin-Granville-Vance Smart Start recently held an exhibit and book giveaway for young children at Thornton Library in Oxford. Present at the event were (back, from left) Songare Seward and Valerie Williams of Teach-a-Tot childcare; Paul Westfall, chairman of the Smart Start Board; Granville County Commissioner David Smith; and Penelope Mason, the children’s librarian. They are joined by several children who participated in the program. Books for the giveaway were provided by Scholastic Books following the success of Smart Start’s Reach Out and Read program, which gave books to children at a local pediatrician’s office.
