Gamma Chi installs officers, initiates members
The Gamma Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International installed officers and initiated several new members at a recent meeting at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ridgeway.
Chapter president Nancy Tunstall welcomed new members and guests at the meeting.
The joining members were Aimee Anderson of Warren Early College High, Ashley Barnette of Mariam Boyd Elementary, Evelyn Hall of Vance-Granville Community College, Jenny O’Meara of Warren County High, Erin Simons of Vaughan Elementary and Jennifer Wilker, a principal intern for Warren County Schools.
Patricia Williamson, the chapter’s membership chairwoman, conducted the initiation ceremony. She was assisted by Tunstall, Crystal Brantley and Elaine Coleman.
Following the ceremony, the $500 Nancy Blankenship Awards were presented by Catherine Blakenship and Richard Blakenship and wife Elaine. Emily Hargrove received a grant-in-aid, and member Jill Coleman received a scholarship.
Morgan Leigh Coleman received the $500 Josephine Myrick Grant-in-Aid Award. The award was presented by Josephine Myrick.
Meeting attendees shared a meal following a blessing given by Melanie Burnette.
A memorial service was held for chapter member Betsy Brown.
During the business session Tunstall, Debra Clayton, Shirley White and Patricia Williamson reported on the society’s recent Eta State Convention held in Greenville. The chapter received several awards at the convention. White gave a treasurer’s report, and reports were heard from committee heads.
An installation service for new officers followed the business session. The new officers are Debra Clayton, president; Patricia Williamson, first vice president; Loree Harris, second vice president; Mary Catherine Harris, recording secretary; Sallye Duncan, corresponding secretary; Shirley White, treasurer; and Harriet Banzet, parliamentarian.
Tunstall was recognized for her service as chapter president for the last four years.
The meeting ended with a raffle to support the chapter’s spelling bee team.
