Low lake levels cause dangers for boaters and closed boat ramps
BOYDTON, Va — Low lake levels have resulted in unsafe boating conditions, along with the closures of some boat ramps.
Boaters are advised to use extreme caution when launching a boat, and to keep an eye out for logs and sand bars in the lake. They should also be on the lookout for exposed debris and danger buoys. Boaters should maintain slower speed and operate vessels with caution. Anyone in a boat or on the shoreline should be wearing a life jacket at all times.
As of Friday, at 8 a.m., the Corps of Engineers has closed five boat ramps on Kerr (Buggs Island) Lake and temporarily suspended day use fees. Rangers are closely monitoring the remaining ramps as water levels continue to decline.
