Murdoch Developmental Center's farm day will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, and volunteer services has begun preparations for this spectacular day. The center is requesting the community's assistance with this project in the form of food donations for the event.

Farm day is an event filled to the brim with entertainment, sensational food and a variety of games and activities throughout the day. This event is open to the public and is a good opportunity for the individuals who lived at the center to share the day with the community, their family and friends.

An assortment of food will be offered, such as barbecue pork and chicken, taco salads, hot dogs, hamburgers, stuffed baked potatoes, hot fudge cakes, fruit cobblers and more.

There will be horseback rides, hay rides, face painting, various games and a raffle — just to name a few of the activities.

Farm day is the center's primary fundraiser to help meet the needs of the intellectually disabled people who live at the center.

Murdoch Developmental Center has 14 residential living areas and two group homes. Staff provides 24-hour care for approximately 500 individuals with intellectual disabilities who live there. Financial aid is not provided in the state budget for events such as farm day. The center relies on the community and area businesses to ensure farm day is successful. The proceeds generated from the event provide extras for those at the center, improving their quality of life. All donations are tax deductible.
