Hawkins featured speaker at Project Lift meeting

Erskine Hawkins recently spoke to students in the Project Life After School Program at Eaton-Johnson Middle School.

Hawkins is the president of the North Carolina State Order of The Elks.

His speech emphasized maintaining good grades and positive behavior, setting positive career goals, respecting authority and avoiding negative peer pressure and gang involvement.

He also shared the history of the national Elks organization, which supports of youth groups throughout the country and abroad.

On behalf of the state Elks organization, he donated $500 to Project Lift for program operations.

Project Lift currently serves 30 students between the ages of 6 and 17 years old.

It offers students a chance to lift weights while attend life skills sessions with mentors.
