Purvis retires after 22 years
Gene Purvis of Franklinton recently retired as dean of Student Development at Vance-Granville Community College.
A retirement reception was held in his honor at the college’s main campus.
Purvis spent 22 years of his 32-year career in public education at Vance-Granville. He was first hired as a vocational counselor in 1991. He has taught, served as coordinator of financial aid, assistant dean and dean of student services. He has provided leadership to departments including admissions and records, financial aid, the registrar, student activities and athletics. He also coordinated all curriculum commencement ceremonies and presided over many scholarship ceremonies.
Stelfanie Williams, VGCC president, offered praise of Purvis’ career at the reception.
