Warren County Middle School to host Black History Month salute
The 11th annual Black History Month Salute will take place Thursday, at 6 p.m., at the Warren County Middle School gymnasium in Warrenton.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating African-American Achievement.” The keynote speaker for this event will be Corey Jennings, special counsel to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of International Corporate Finance.
Jennings attended the University of Virginia in pursuit of his Juris Doctorate. This was preceded by a triple major in black studies, government and sociology (specializing in African government and politics), and neo-colonialism at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio; followed by a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago.
His duties at the SEC include reviewing and counselling the government on international business transactions, particularly those with China and the Caribbean Islands. He also makes presentations to foreign policy groups and delegates visiting from other countries.
Outside of work, he serves as the editor of the Oracle for the Lambda Gamma Gamma Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and president of the Next Generation Awareness Foundation.
