‘Afternoon Tea’ class coming in March to community college

Feb. 22, 2013 @ 08:21 PM

In collaboration with The Old North State Tea Society, Vance-Granville Community College is once again offering the “Let’s Have an Afternoon Tea” course. Constance Lue of Oxford, known as the “Tea Lady,” will be the instructor.

Starting March 5, classes will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 1-4 p.m., on the main campus. On March 18, students will put on an actual afternoon tea party at Magnolia Manor in Warrenton for their final class and “graduation” ceremony.

This course will cover the history of tea drinking; what distinguishes an afternoon tea party from a royal tea party or a “High Tea”; techniques for brewing the best pot of tea; and the differences between varieties through frequent tastings.

Students completing the course gains them membership in the Old North State Tea Society and all of the benefits and opportunities afforded to its members.

Those who register for the course, at $45 per person, will receive a resource manual containing recipes, flower arrangement tips and an etiquette section.
