College offers personal enrichment courses

Vance-Granville Community College has scheduled a handful of non-credit personal enrichment courses at its main campus in Vance County.

Painting classes will be taught by longtime art instructor Lelia Brigham on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 8 through Dec. 8 and on Tuesdays from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Sept. 9 through Dec. 9. The cost of the course is $95.

Leslie Johnson will teach a portrait painting class on Wednesdays from 1:45 to 4:45 p.m. Sept. 10 through Nov. 12. The cost to attend is $70.

Doll-making will be offered Tuesday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 9 through Nov. 11, taught by Bertie Bumgarner, for $95.

Quilting classes will be offered on three schedules: Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30, Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The courses begin Sept. 2, Sept. 3 and Sept. 4 and conclude Dec. 9, Dec. 10 and Dec. 11, respectively. Velvet Boyd will instruct the Tuesday class, while Peggy Stocks will be the instructor during Wednesday and Thursday classes. On any schedule, the cost of the course is $95.

Woodworking will be taught by Keith Tunstall, head of the college’s carpentry program, from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday evenings Sept. 11 through Nov. 13, for a course cost of $110.
