Sorosis Club reviews ‘National Velvet’
The Sorosis Club recently held a meeting in the library at Kerr-Vance Academy.
The hostess was Allison Short. She served a dessert course to the 11 members present.
Betty Brand, president, called the meeting to order and conducted a brief business session.
Tempe Riddle reviewed “National Velvet” by English writer Enid Bagnold.
The novel centers on fourteen-year-old Velvet Brown, who wins a horse in a raffle and then trains it to race in the Grand National steeplechase.
A film adaptation of the book was released in 1944, starring Elizabeth Taylor and Mickey Rooney.
