Last month, Elementary students from area schools participated in the Guided Growth Afterschool Program at the Warren County Youth Services Bureau. The topic was “Prevent Child Abuse … Safer Home, Safer School, Safer Community.”

In observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month, students (along with their parents) were instructed on methods for preventing child abuse. School safety issues, as well as gun safety and control, were key subject touched upon during the program.

Lending her 14 years of experience to the presentation was Sgt. Jequetta Jennings Wright, a certified detention officer with the Vance County Sheriff Dept. She annually attends self-defense classes while studying new laws and practices implemented in various detention centers.
