Bullock, Parham named Mr. and Ms. Badd Boyz: Social club makes donations to Yancey, Pinkston Street

The Badd Boyz and Lady Badd Boyz Social Club recently held its annual Fall Celebrity of the Year Scholarship Dance at the Pride of Vance Elks Lodge on West Rock Spring Street. It takes place every year to raise money for scholarships which are given to high school seniors in Vance and adjacent counties.

This year’s theme was “Helping Others Improve Their Quality of Life.” and the color scheme was black and gold. Four drum majors performed for attendees

Social club president Jameel Williams performed the presentation and crowning of the new king and queen for 2012. The titles went to Johnny Bullock and Catherine Parham.

The son of Evelyn Brame, Bullock is the father of one adult son, Jermaine Bullock. He serves as usher and greeter at Mount Zion Christian Church; he is also a member of Pride of Vance Elks Lodge No. 1263. At L. B. Yancey Elementary School, he is employed as the special assistant to the business manager.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Junior Bullock, Parham is the mother of three adult children: Shanita Bullock, Quinton Bullock and Thomas Parham Jr.; she has five grandchildren. At Young’s Memorial United Holy Church, she performs with the choir and helps in the food pantry. She volunteers at L. B. Yancey School and often substitute teaches throughout Vance County Schools. She also serves as the special assistant to the first vice-president.

Both Bullock and Parham have won social club titles  previously. Runners-up for the titles were Cedric Hinton and Thomas Williams and Barbara Davis and Frances Chavis. Williams congratulated them all.

Each year, the social club votes on schools in Vance County they would like to adopt in order to help the students and teachers at those schools. This year, the social club voted on Lelia B. Yancey and Pinkston Street Elementary schools. Monetary donations to both schools were presented to purchase supplies for students and teachers.
