“Tall Ships,” one of his orchestral compositions, was used as the official song of the 2006 America Parade of Sail event. Both the North Carolina Symphony and the Tar River Philharmonic Orchestra have performed his compositions.

In addition, he is well-known as a story teller and has penned a book featuring his father’s watercolor depictions of Western North Carolina. A graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, he serves as an elder at Cary Presbyterian Church.

Together with his wife, Cindy, a speech pathologist, they have two children: Lauren, an elementary school teacher; and Will, an Appalachian State University graduate currently working for a Charlotte-based film company.
