Northern Vance students ‘Crank’ out competition-level work

The Crinkum-Crankum literary magazine at Northern Vance High Schoo recently competed in the 2012 Student Publication Awards competition through the N.C. Literary and Historical Association, earning second place.

Members of the staff are shown in the photo with their trophy. They include Ryan Wilson, Mary Oakley, Kudaija Hurling and Berenise Martinez, Alexis Wilkerson, Deja Fuller, Cortney Williams, Terrylynn Silva, Sherry Randall, Jared Freeman and Maya Alston.

Instructor Carole Griffin leads the staff members of this award winning magazine in the production of the yearly publication.

Under her guidance, Crinkum-Crankum has collected a number of literary awards during the past several years. These include: American Scholastic Press Association First Place and Special Merit; Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Medalist; National Council of Teachers of English Superior and Nominated for Highest Award; North Carolina Scholastic Media Association Distinction and First Place Theme Development; and Southern Interscholastic Press Association Superior.
