Pinkston Street Elementary School recently hosted its sixth annual pre-Veterans Day luncheon.

More than 40 veterans attended the event.

The event included a flag raising and presentation, a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, a reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance and the school pledge and a prisoner of war ceremony performed by members of the Northern Vance High School JROTC.

Poems were recited by students and music was provided by the Praise Team Pra Phi Si.

The luncheon consisted of chicken and ham, along with various side dishes and desserts.

Each veteran was presented with a candy bag and program booklet with photos from the school’s previous luncheons.

A Hall of Valor was set up at the school for students and staff to place photos of family members and friends who served in the armed forces.

The committee for the event consisted of Heddie Somerville, principal of the school, Sadaris Edgerton, Sheryl Ali, Erma Boyd, Robin Littlejohn and Robert Archie.
