Three upcoming events in Warren and Granville counties will provide an opportunity for area residents to join the American Cancer Society’s new research study, the Cancer Prevention Study-3.

The events will take place in Warrenton, Oxford and Butner.

The Warrenton event will take place at the Warrenton Rural Fire Department on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

The Oxford event will be at the Masonic Home for Children on Thursday from 3 to 6:30 p.m.

The Butner event will take place in the Butner Town Hall on Tuesday from 3 to 6:30 p.m.

Walk-ins will be accepted. Appointments can be scheduled at cps3gvw.org.

The CPS-3 study is a long term study designed to help researchers better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer.

Those eligible to join the study must be between 30 and 65 years old; must have never been diagnosed with cancer, not including basal or squamous cell skin cancers; and must be willing to take periodic follow-up surveys at home for the next 20 to 30 years.

During the initial enrollment, participants will have a small blood sample drawn and will complete a comprehensive survey.

The society will also be enrolling participants at a cancer event entitled, “Preventing and Coping with Cancer,” scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Family Life Center of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church in Henderson.
