Aycock Elementary School students and staff brought enough loose change from home to raise $1,494 for the American Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s “Pennies for Patients” campaign. Money donated will go toward services for patients with leukemia and lymphoma.

This community service project was conducted as a friendly competition. Tara Norwood’s first-grade class earned a $50 gift card for finishing in first place after raising $246, as well as a silver pennant (for raising the most money among all classes).

Donna Smith’s kindergarten class came in second place with $190 in donations: they received a $30 gift card to apply toward a class party. Amber Hines’ second-grade class took third place with $173 in change: they will hold a class party using their $20 gift card prize.

Bronze pennants were awarded to both classes, as well as Christy Harris’ pre-kindgergarten class; and Sharonda Bullock’s and Stacy Green’s  first grade classes.
