The next series of childbirth classes at Maria Parham Medical Center will begin April 29.

The class will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the hospital, in the John T. Church Classroom.

The deadline to register for the course is April 19: call (252) 436-1881 to do so. The registration fee is $50. Residency within Vance County is not required to take this course.

Lamaze trained and certified instructors will teach the course. Topics covered will include: comfort measures; support persons and their roles; movement; positions; labor environment; and breastfeeding.

On April 22, the hospital will also offer a free breastfeeding class at the same time and location. A certified lactation consultant will teach the class; expectant mothers attending should bring their support person. Again, call (252) 436-1881 to register.

For more information, Jackie Ross, RN, lactation consultant and Lamaze certified childbirth educator, can be reached at (252) 436-1414.
