Cancer Prevention Study-3 kickoff

Aug. 23, 2013 @ 09:24 AM

A kickoff event for the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Prevention Study-3 will be held Monday at the Quality Inn, 197 Parham Road, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The event will provide information about the study.

Those who have never had a cancer diagnosis and are between ages 30-55 are eligible for participation. Those not eligible, or those not wanting to participate, may still be able to volunteer for the study.

The American Cancer Society first began conducting long-term studies such as CPS-3 in the 1950s. Results from previous studies have aided in linking things such as cigarette smoking and lung cancer; diabetes and cancers of the pancreas and colon; and physical activity and a lowered risk of various cancers.

Study enrollment takes about 30 minutes and involves a baseline health history survey, a blood sample and waistline measurement. Afterward, participants will fill out a questionnaire every two to three years.
