Lake Gaston Association: Community center topic of February meeting
The Lake Gaston Association has invited Mavis Ricks, president of the Lake Gaston Community Center, to speak at its monthly meeting on Feb. 6, at 9:30 a.m. He will discuss the center’s history and current activities taking place there. Clarence Drumgoole, finance secretary, will also be on hand to assist him.
For this next meeting, the association meeting will return to the community center, 564 N.C. 46, Gaston (at the corner of River Road and N.C. 46 in Henrico), in Northampton County. (The location and date for the January meeting was changed.)
The history of the center dates back to 1921 when the Northampton County Board of Education purchased some land for school use. The center offers several services to the community. It also serves as a location for satellite classes from Halifax Community College.
The numerous association committees — Public Safety, Lake Environment, Government Relations, Marketing and Membership and Lake Clean Up — will also discuss the various activities they are working on. The association has allotted time at this meeting for attendees to present lake-related issues or concerns to the board.
The meeting is open to both members and non-members.
